Mercedes-Benz introduces the G63 AMG 6x6, a formidable SUV for serious off-road conditions. Inspired by the G-Wagon 6x6 which is supplied to the Australian Military, the new six-wheel-drive vehicle will enter production this year.
The G63 AMG 6x6 is similar to the G63 AMG but stretched out to fit six wheels and a pickup bed. The engine is a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 544 horsepower and generates 560 lb-ft of torque. With its seven speed automatic transmission the vehicle can hit 60mph in 7 seconds and reach a top speed of over 100mph. Its top speed is limited by the SUV's giant 37-inch tires.
The 6x6 is expected to have a fuel consumption rating of 19.0L/100km/h and come with two fuel tanks providing an overall capacity of 159 liters. An onboard compressor with four 20 liter tanks fitted along the sides of the underbody allows you to adjust the tire pressure. It takes just 20 seconds to increase the tire from a stand friendly 0.5 bar up to the 1.8 bar required for on-road use.
Mercedes intends to produce just 20 to 30 of these per year. Pricing is not yet known.
